Future Release Cycle

Now that LambdaRogue is back on track, I have thought a bit about future releases. In a previous devlog post I already mentioned that, in the past, larger updates usually happened in fall and around Christmas, and I want to continue this tradition. 'Large' in my understanding means usually a version jump from e.g. 1.6.4 to 1.7, but also 1.7.0 to 1.7.1.

In the past I decided out of a gut feeling how big a jump in a version number is, but since 1.7, version number is based on save game compatibility. So a 1.7.1 or 1.7.2 will be save game compatible, whereas a 1.8 won't. Save game compatibility means that you can load your 1.7 save in 1.7.1 and 1.7.2 (but not backwards, i.e. no 1.7.2 save in 1.7) without breaking it or without crash (but balancing changes in items or monsters will still take effect). I will try to keep save game compatibility for as long as possible, but there are some extensions to character development planned which need to break compatibility.

So, this means that the next months are reserved for small updates: For example further adjustments to balancing, or fixing bugs, in a 1.7.0.1 or 1.7.0.2.

In September, I will release 1.7.1, which will focus on improving the Forgotten Realm, the Outskirts layout, and the inventory & songbook user interface.

In December, I will release 1.8, which includes the character development changes (I will post about that more soon), a new profession, a new dungeon branch with new monsters and an additional side new quest line in story mode.
